Aid & Attendance Program & Veterans Benefits—Explained by Reading-Area Attorney, Scott Painter

4 Skills Veterans Bring-2

Many times, people will come—and it may be a spouse or sometimes a parent who is a veteran—and they’ve heard about, or researched on the Internet and found, the benefit known as aid and attendance. What that is, is the benefit that provides an improved pension for a veteran who requires some level of medical care and attention. That can be anything from requiring someone to come into their home and help them to living in a personal care home or assisted living facility. Those areas are not covered by the Medicaid program, and therefore, there’s no federal benefit to help pay for those expenses.

However, the veterans have more or less filled that gap and provided an improved pension or a payment to a veteran to help pay those expenses. And many times you have a situation where they have too many assets. That can be an issue, but we can transition assets into a trust and deal with that issue very effectively for them so they can get this benefit.

It’s one thing I’m proud of because they served our country and I feel really good that I can serve them in this respect.
